1. HONESTY – (Psa 32:5) (Psa 139:23-24). Be honest with yourself and God. Any sin not confessed or repented of gives the demon a “legal right” to remain.
2. HUMILITY – (James 4:6-7) (James 5:16) Recognize your dependence on God and His provisions for deliverance. Be completely open with Gods servant doing the deliverance.
3. REPENTANCE – (Amos 3:3) (Ezek 20:43) Turn 180 degrees from Sin and Satan. Hate evil and fall out of agreement with it. Deliverance is not used to gain relief from problems, but in order to become more like Jesus, through obedience to all that God requires.
4. RENUNCIATION – (Math 3:7-8) (Acts 19:18-19) Is the forsaking of Evil. It is the action resulting repentance. This is where the fruits of repentance are brought forth.
5. FORGIVENESS – (1 John 1:9) (Math 6:14-15) (Math 18:21-35) God freely forgives all who confess their sins, and ask for forgiveness through His son Jesus. He expects us to do the same as others. Willingness to forgive is absolutely essential for deliverance.
6. PRAYER – (Joel 2:32) Ask God to deliver you and set you free in the Name of Jesus.
7. WARFARE – (Eph 6:10-12) (2 Cor 10:3-5) (James 4:7) (Rev 12:11) (Eph 6:17)
(Mark 16:17) (Luke 10:19) (Psa 18:2) Prayer and warfare are two separate and distinct activities. Prayer is towards God, and warfare towards God, and warfare towards the devil. Identify Spirits, address them directly by name in a commanding voice, in the Name of Jesus. The Victory is ours.
7 Way to Determine the Need for Deliverance:
2 Principle Methods:
a) Discernment. (1 Cor 12:10)
b) Detection {Observation} (Mark 7:24-30)
1. Emotional Problems:
i) Normal fear – produced by danger.
a) Resentment.
b) Hatred.
ii) Neurotic fear – produced by something in the prisons past that they recall and
re-experience the fear.
iii) Demonic fear, bringing the person into bondage to Satan.
a) Resentment
b) Hatred
c) Anger.
d) Fear. (Claustrophobic, Acrophobic (Heights), Necrophobic (Dead).
e) Rejection. (Feeling unwanted and unloved).
f) Self Pity, Jealousy.
g) Depression, Worry.
h) Inferiority.
i) Security.
2. Mental Problems: NB!! Neurosis and Mental illness cannot be cast out, but
a) Mental Torment they may be healed through prayer. But they are

j. Adultery
k. Incest
l. Provocativeness
m. Harlotry
5. Addictions:
a. Nicotine
b. Alcohol
c. Drugs
d. Medicines
e. Caffeine
f. Food.
6. Physical Infirmities:
Many diseases and physical afflictions are due to spirits of infirmity. (Luke 13:11) When this type of demon is cast out, there is often a need to pray for a healing of whatever damage was caused. Thus there is a close relationship between deliverance and healing.
7. Religious Error:
Involvement in any degree of religious error can open the door for demons. This includes objects and literature from sources of religious error.
a) False Religions:-
Eastern Religions; Pagan religions; Philosophies; Mind sciences. Also Yoga, Karate etc.
b) Christian Cults:-
Mormonism; Jehovahs Witness; Christian Science; Rosicnucianism; Theosophy; Unity etc. Such cults deny or confuse the necessity of Christ Blood as the way of atonement for sin and for Salvation. (2 Tim 3:5)
c) Occult and Spiritism:-
Seances; Witchcraft; Magic; Ouiji boards; Levitation; Palmistry; Handwriting analysis; Automatic Handwriting; E.S.P; Hypnosis; Horoscopes; Astrology; Divination. Any method of seeking Supernatural knowledge; Wisdom; Guidance and Power apart from God is forbidden. (Deut 18:9-15)
d) False Doctrine:- (1 Tim 4:1)
The increase of doctrinal errors promoted by deceiving and seducing spirits in the last days. Such doctrines are designed to attack both the humanity and deity of Jesus Christ; to deny the inspiration of scripture, to distract Christians from the move of the Spirit, to cause disernity in the body of Christ, to cause confusion in the Church through obsession with doctrines coupled with a compulsion to propagate
such doctrines, to puff up with a sense of superiority in revelation, making the one in error unteachable, and to foster emphasis upon fleshly activities as a gateway to the spiritual, as in asceticism and vegetarianism.
7 Steps to Retaining Deliverance:-
1. Put on the whole Armor of God. (Eph 6:10)(Phil 4:8)
2. Confess Positively. (Mark 11:23)
3. Stay in the Scriptures. (James 1:22-25)(Psa 119:105)
4. Crucify the Flesh. (Luke 9:23)(Gal 5:19-21,24)
5. Develop a life of Continuous Praise and Prayer. (1 Cor 14:14) (1 Thess 5:17)
6. Maintain a life of fellowship and Spiritual Ministry. (1Cor 12:7-14)
7. Commit yourself totally to Christ. (Eph 6:16)(Rom 5:10)
Can a Christian be Demonized ?
Semantics separating demon possession and demon influence seem important to some people, but at all times it should be remembered that the need of the people should be met, and not to argue semantics.
NOTE: Both believers and non-believers can be subject to demon influence. While a non-believer can be totally controlled or possessed, a Christian rarely has the same degree of complete subjugation.
NB!! It is far better to work with an individual than a group, because we are all different personalities, needing personal attention. Locate each persons problem and deal with it swiftly. Leave out the theatrics (for Hollywood) and stay in the business of helping people and not building your own name.
NOTE: Deliverance is not a ministry, but part and parcel of each individuals reconciliation ministry, as is healing and salvation. (Luke 10:17-20) So do not dramatize it as a special ministry. People should decide for themselves, if they want deliverance, and should not be sought after. Don’t go demon hunting or demon conscious.
Our desire should be two fold:
a) A desire to see God glorified
b) A desire to help those in need, for freedom and healing.
HOW DEMONIZATION OCCURS:
4 Basic Categories:-
1. THE OCCULT: (An abomination to God.) (Deut 18:10-12) (Lev 19:26,31) (Lev 20:6,7)(2 Kings 23:5) (Gal 5:20)
A) Fortune Telling
i) Astrology and Numerology
ii) Palm reading
iii) Tarot
iv) I Ching
v) Ouiji Board
B) Magic:
i) Witchcraft
ii) Satan Worship
iii) Curses and Spells
iv) White and Black, or Love and Hate magic.
C) Spiritism: – (Spiritualism)
i) Seances
ii) Medium ship
iii) E.S.P
a) Clairvoyance
b) Mental Telepathy
c) Trances
d) Automatic Writing
e) Astral Projection
2. PASSIVE STATE OF MIND (or Altered State of Consciousness)
a. Through trances, when the mind is in neutral, open and vunerable.
b. Through induced states, Voluntary letting go, usually through: Drugs; Chants; Music; Yoga; T.M.
This is controlled by the mind and will. Note that T.M. or L.S.D remove the wall of protection of the will and allow demons to enter. E.S.P Helpers actually invite them in. A passive state of mind, whether in a Church or E.S.T. seminar is extremely dangerous.
NB!! Resistance to this teaching from within the Church, actually could be a demon. (i.e.) Some Churches when filled with the Holy Spirit become so Hyper and Violent to the receiving of the Holy Spirit, that it could actually be a demon entering them because the teaching is based on sensationalism and not the word of God.
3. EXCESSIVE SIN:
A person continually rejects and rebels against the Holy Spirit prompting, and the word, and commits
himself to sin or lives a sinful lifestyle. (i.e.) Sexual Sin; Alcohol; Drugs; Occult. (Rom 1:28) If we continue in such practices we shall be given to a reprobate mind.
4. TRAUMATIC EXPERIENCES:
Fear can produce not only neurotic but even demonic behavior in later years.
Demonization in the first
(3.) comes by an act of your own will, where as (4) comes by environmental circumstances, and is very rare. (i.e.) Rejection, abandonment, sudden death of a loved one, Strong hatred for parents.
Thus when counseling someone, whom you think may be demonized, you should check His background carefully, Note if the state of mind is wiped clean, it is easy for a demon to enter in.
HOW TO GO ABOUT DOING DELIVERANCE:
Jesus is the Deliverer. (Col 1:29) This was a normal part of the ministry of Jesus. For us to stand in authority, we must be sure of our Victory in Christ. (Col 1:15-17). We enjoy the same Authority over demons as the disciples did.
e.g. The twelve. (Luke 9:1-2) (Math 10:1) The 72. (Luke 10:17-19)
NB!! Nothing will harm you. (Luke 10:19) Don’t get pride-full. (Luke 10:20)
Preparation of the Minister: (Eph 2:6) Be confident of your position in Christ. He must be spiritually mature, and demonstrate consistent growth and be anxious to serve God.
Learn to rest in Christ. (Heb 4:1-11). Do not be curious about deliverance, be serious, it is not a spectator sport. We wrestle against Principalities; Power; Rulers of the Darkness of this world; and Evil Spirits in high places, not against flesh and blood.
Preparation for Persons seeking Deliverance:
Deliverance must be done in context to counseling, that is in sessions. Repentance and unconfessed sin are essential for deliverance. (Acts 19:18,19) All Occult books etc. should be discarded. Do not sell them, Burn them! The person must be a Christian. (James 4:7) (Luke 4:24-26)
The Process of Deliverance:
Never do it alone, and make sure you are in quiet place, begin with praise and worship and prayer.
1. The person is to renounce those practices.
2. Command the demon to name its self. Be bold, this command may be needed to be repeated over and over, because the demon will not want to leave the body.
Jesus commanded by a word. Sometimes the demon may name the symptom and that would help in counseling the person. The demon may name itself in 3 (three) ways:
1. In the mind of the person.
2. By a scream.
3. By the gift of knowledge and the discernment of Spirits.
It is helpful to stop at this point and let the person reject that spirit. A demon is a spirit and will come out as a breath through the mouth, usually in a scream or a cough, sigh or simple exhaling. Command it out in the Name of Jesus by naming it. You may have to repeat yourself.
A sense of relief follows a successful deliverance (Acts 8:7) A person will feel exhausted but peaceful. Except by discernment, this is the only way you can know. Continue until all demons have left. Have rest periods and turns in praying for people.
NB!! Be careful people enjoy attention they receive in a deliverance, so do not go on too long. Once the stronghold or strongman is bound and cast out, the others will leave as the person willfully follows Christ.
NOTE: Do not argue with a demon, or believe them. Never accept or dual with any comments. (i.e.) I am the Holy Spirit. Do not be provoked to anger, and avoid yielding. Do not give up easily.
SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES:
1. Preferably not in other peoples Churches
2. Children – should be conducted with the parent.
3. A Wife – the husband should know and approve.
4. New Believers – it is better that they grow a bit first.
5. The Emotionally Disturbed – try to stabilize them first.
6. The Overly Dependent – do not allow them to go on to long after the demons have left.
HINDRANCES TO DELIVERANCE:
These are tactics which Satan employs to prevent or disrupt deliverance.
1. INTELLECTUAL HINDRANCE:
a. Demons do not exist. Satan is a liar. (John 8:44)
b. Demons are good and they are harmless Spirits. (i.e.) Good and Bad Magic.
c. Good is love and would never hurt even a demon. (1 John 4:16) But (Deut 4:24)
(Heb 12:29) (Jude 6)(2 Pet 2:4) (Math 25:41) (Rev 20:10-15)
d. Demons that are cast out will re-invade. (Math 12:43-45)(Luke 11:24-26)
e. Demons cast out will enter a loved one.
f. Demons will kill or harm a person who is ministering.
g. There are no demons present, they are only Psychological.
h. The demons are gone.
i. God will not help you because you are sinful.
j. Having a demon is the unpardonable sin. (Mark 3:28-29)(John 16:7-11)(Math 12:31)
k. Deliverance will no doubt fail, so why try. (Mark 5:1-15)(Acts 16:16-18)
l. Deliverance will cause insanity. (Mark 5:1-15)(2 Tim 1:7)
m. Jesus cannot cast out demons. (Eph 1:19-22)
2. PHYSICAL AND EMOTIONAL HINDRANCES:
A. Physical upsets. (James 4:7)
i. Stomach pains.
ii. Shortness of Breath.
iii. Voices in the Head. (Mind)
iv. Pain in the Chest.
v. Pain in the Throat.
vi. Pain in the Back.
B. Physical Contortions:
i. Demons will make people make ugly faces.
ii. Contort arms, legs and body.
C. Fear of Embarrassment:
i) Disrobing.
ii) Swearing.
iii) Any uncontrolled Act.
D. Violent Actions:
Fasting and prayer are helpful in these extreme cases. Be sure that you take people who are Mature in the Word of God, with you.
E. Fear of Reaction of Friends and Relatives if Word gets around:
Make it a rule that these sessions are strictly confidential. Do no use them later as illustrations.
3. SPIRITUAL HINDRANCES:
Resist the devil and he will flee from you. (James 4:7) All of them are removed like this. How to Maintain Deliverance and Freedom: (Luke 11:24-26)
Staying Victorious over Satan ?
i) Abide in Repentance.
ii) Abide in Christ Victory.
iii) Abide in the Holy Spirit.
iv) Abide in Christ Church.
vi) Abide in Repentance:
(1 John 1:5)(1 John 2:6)(Heb 12:1) (2 Pet 2:22)
a. How to walk in the light? (1 John 1:5-7)
b. What to do if you do sin? (1 John 2:3-6)
c. Obey to avoid sinning? (1 John 2:3-6)
(1 John 1:7) (1 John 1:9) (Gal 5:19-21)
Sins that keep us from inheriting the Kingdom of Heaven. (1 John 2:3-6)
How to avoid these sins.
i) Obey the commands of Christ.
ii) Live after the pattern of Jesus.
Confess and ask God to forgive his right away. (Phil 4:13) If we do no resist the devil, it is our own fault because we have been given the Authority.
ii) Abide In Christ’s Victory:

(Prov 3:5,6) (Psa 27:1) (Psa 44:1-2) (Psa 119:11)
iii. Abide in the Holy Spirit:
(Eph 5:18) Be filled with the Spirit.
(Psa 51:1-4) Confess your sin in detail.
(Psa 51:7-9) Ask for forgiveness.
(Psa 51:10-12) Pray for the in filling.
(Psa 51:13) Be willing to use this power.
It is helpful to ask the person to write down what they think may be blocking the Holy Spirit.
Sins of Omission Sins of Commission
1. Lack of quiet time. 1. Lying.
2. Lack of daily prayer. 2. Anger against brethren.
3. Lack of witnessing. 3. Jealousy.
4. Lack of Fellowship. 4. Rebellion against Leaders.
5. Lack of Giving. 5. Bad example to others.
6. Lack of Love for the Brethren. 6. Out on the town and not with the Lord.
Confess each one and be filled with the Holy Spirit.
iv) Abide in Christ Church: (Acts 2:41-47)
The importance of it is that converts will become powerful Christians and work for the Lord. What does it mean to be a member? (Acts 2:42) Attend bible studies, fellowship, Communion, Prayer Meetings, (Acts 2:44) Share together in Church. (Acts 2:46) Attend several times a week. (Acts 2:46) Fellowship outside of Churches. (Heb 10:24-25)(Rom 6:1)(Rom 16:20)(Rom 16:3-5,16)
HOMOSEXUALS AND OTHERS:
They must be willing to change and submit their entire emotional, physical, and Spiritual life to the Lordship of Christ and His body, if deliverance is to be thorough.
1. Thoroughness:- They need to be completely and totally delivered from all indwelling Spirits. After deliverance, they need to change their environment, and a process of rehabilitation in the right circles is necessary.
2. Fellowship:- This is not the 20 minute after Church type of fellowship with tea and cake, but the real sharing of burdens and getting real with each other.
NB!! There must be a deep follow up after deliverance. (Luke 11:24-26) (Rom 12:15) (Gal 6:1-2) (James 5:16) Assign a person as a partner. (i.e.) As the A.A. for their strength and Maturity.
THE OCCULT:
Regardless of all the repentance you go through, severe depression, doctrinal error, and a reoccurrence of your past sins will beset you, if you do not go for deliverance. (John 8:36) (Deut 18:9-15)
PARTIAL DEMONIZATION:
1. (Math 12:22) Sight and Speech.
2. (Luke 13:11) Only the Physical body.
3. (1 Sam 16:14-23) Saul’s mind.
4. (Jud 9:23-25) In the area of Cruelty. (Men of Scechem)
5. (1 Kings 22:23) Prophets in areas of preaching and prophecy.
6. (Gen 6:4) Sexual Demonology.
OUR SPIRITUAL ENEMIES:
1. Principalities: – (Eph 6:12)
Describes things in series. i.e.: Leaders; Rulers; Magistrates. This describes their rank and organization. Satan’s kingdom is highly organized. The English word for principalities is used to define the territory or justification of a prince or the country that gives title to a prince. (Webster). Thus ruling spirits are organized over areas such as cities and nations as in (Dan 10). Thus warfare effects our homes, communities and Nation.
2. Powers: – (Authorities)
Thus a demon over a certain area has been designated Authority to carry out whatever order have been assigned. (Mark 16:17) (Acts 1:8) (Luke 9:1) (Luke 10:17-19) (Math 28) (Math 16:18). The Militant Church has been given its power and authority by Jesus over such demons.
3. The Rulers of the Darkness of this World:
World Rulers or Lords of this world, or Princes of this age. This designation of the enemy emphasizes his intention to control. Satan is referred to as “The God of this World.” (2 Cor 4:4) (Math 4:9). Jesus explained the ability to cast out demons. (Luke 11:20-22) Satan’s armor was taken away from him by Jesus and the Christian is told to put on the whole armor of God. The more Christians enter into warfare the more Satan will suffer loss.
4. Spiritual wickedness in High Places:
The Key word here is Wickedness, suggesting that which is highly injurious or destructive in character. (John 10:10)
