The Devil and Music:
Music and its perversion: (Ezek 28:13) Satan as an Orchestra, he had every type of instrument built into his body. (Isaiah 14:11) Also viols or six stringed instruments. Lucifer was the Anointed Cherub that covereth. Lucifer means light bearer, or day star. He was also called Son of Morning, and the Anointed Cherub. His Anointing was for the serving or ministry in Music. (Ezek 28:14) His responsibility was to lead Angelic host in Praise and Worship to God the Father, singing and playing. (Luke 2:13-14)(Isa 6:1-3)(Rev 5:11-12). Music in the beginning was ordained by God and was pleasing to Him.
The Bible describes Lucifer as being very wise and extremely beautiful. (Ezek 28:13) (Job 38:7) Through this harmony, order and divine music in heaven, Lucifer saw his own beauty and brilliance and became arrogant and lifted up in pride. (Isa 14:13-14) Lucifer began to desire worship for himself.
Watch out musicians.
When Satan was thrown out of heaven, he took a third of the angels with him. (Rev 12:3,7,8,9). Jesus said, (Luke 10:18) that He saw Satan as lightning fall from Heaven. (Ezek 28:16-17) (Isa 14:12-14). When Lucifer fell, music fell, and what used to worship Almighty God, now became music of an Earthly nature. It became corrupted. The World has always had music connected with their sin, but God has always had it connected with worship. The Devil tried to get Jesus to worship him, and avoid the cross. (Math 4:8-9) He is still doing this today to potential superstars.
NB!! Rock concerts are counterfeit of Worship.
The Church and Worship:
- Vertical towards God: The purpose of Worship is to establish or to give expression to a relationship between creature and deity. Pure worship expresses adoration and veneration, without making petition, and predicates self renunciation and sacrificial giving to God. Worship is the occupation of the Soul with God Himself and does not include prayer for needs and thanksgiving for blessings. Congregational worship is regulated in (1 Cor 11:14) any member may take part as the Spirit may prompt. (1 Cor 14:26) (1 Pet 4:10) Jesus taught us to worship in Spirit and in Truth. (John 4:23)
- Horizontal Worship towards Gods People; Man:
Music is mention 839 times in the Bible and Hell only 70. (Psa 100:2) Come before His presence with singing. (Psa 95:2) Come before His presence with Thanksgiving. (Psa 22:3) God inhabits or dwells in the Praises of His people.
Note that the Church is the Spiritual Israel (Gal 6). In (1 Chron 6:31-32) Priests and Levites were set in the house of God, for the sole purpose of providing music in song and instrument. David appointed these priests and they received payment out to the tithe, because they were full time for the Lord. (1 Chron 9:33) (Neh 11:22-23) (Neh 13:5)
NB!! A song service is a prerequisite for the Word of the Lord.
(2 Kings 3) Jehoshaphat like Elisha, used musicians so that they could prophesy. Elijah used a minstrel on a harp. Music is a command by God to be a part of our daily lives as well as part of our worship to Him. (Psa 96:1) (Psa 177:7) (Eph 5:18-19) It is mentioned over 200 times, to sing to God. The Bible promised a generation that shall be created, that shall praise the Lord. (Psa 102:18) (Zeph 3:17) (Heb 2:12) Psalms, the books of songs, is the longest in the Bible because of this.
The Song of Moses, is a song Praising God for His redemptive acts. (Ex 15:1-19)
Psalm 113-118 are the “hallel psalms,” and are used in Jewish feasts. The systematization of Israelite praise is attributed to David. Chronicles record in detail David’s institution of the Levitical temple musicians and gatekeepers. (1 Chr 23:1 to 26:32)
- Praise before dawn or all through the night. (Psalms of Solomon 3:1)
- Praise as a sacrifice. (Heb 13:15)
- Continual duty and privilege. (1 Thess 5:16) (Rev 4:8)
- New Testament Hymns of Praise center around redemption in Christ. (Luke 1:46-55) (Eph 1:3-14)(Rev 5:9-14)(Col 1:18-20)
- Gods being. (Rev 4:8)
- Creative Work. (Rev 4:11)(Col 1:15-17)
Music in Power: (Anointing)
What is the Anointing? When a King or Priest was to take office, He was anointed, that is, oil was poured upon his head. (Ex 29:7) and he was set apart to God. Oil is a type of the Holy Spirit. (2 Chron 5:12-14) The dedication of Solomon’s temple, no one could stand to minister. Allow God to choose the songs, not just the popular songs. Unity comes through Praying together. (Zeck 4:6) It is not by might, but by the Holy Spirit.
David being a musician himself knew the place the ministry of music should have in the House of the Lord. He set aside whole families to be musicians before the Ark of the Covenant. Their job was to prophesy on those instruments. (1 Chron 25:1) they were not part of the choir or congregational singing, they only prophesied on their instruments. David appointed 288 men to prophesy with instruments of music.
(1 Chron 25:7) Music and prophesy are connected. (1 Sam 10:5-6)(2 Kings 3:15,16)
