It is the outward manifestation of pity. It assumes “need” on the part of Him who receives it, and “resources” adequate to meet the “need” on the part of Him who shows it.
(Eph 2:4) God is rich in Mercy, and has provided Salvation for
- All Men (Tit 3:5)
- b. Jews (Luke 1:72)
- c. Gentiles (Rom 15:9)
He is merciful to those who fear Him. (Luke 1:50) For they also are compassed within infirmity, and he alone can succor them. Hence, they have to pray boldly for mercy, (Heb 4:16) themselves; and for one another. (Gal 6:16)(Tim 1:2)
At the coming of Christ, His people will obtain His mercy. (2 Tim 1:16) (Jude 21). Mercy is the act of God, Peace is the resulting experience in the heart of Man.
NOTE: GRACE describes Gods attitude towards the Law breaker and the rebel.
MERCY is His attitude towards those who are in distress.
Grace must precede Mercy; only the forgiven can be blessed.
Mercy is:
- Eternal (Psa 103:17)
2. Boundless (Psa 108:4)
3. Prolongs life. (Lam 3:22)
4. Encourages Penitence (Joel 2:13)
5. Forgives Sin. (Tit 7:18)
6. Makes salvation possible (Tit 3:5)
7 Steps to Obtaining Help:
- Recognition of a meeting place with God. (i.e.) The throne of Grace.
2. Consciousness that this meeting place is made possible through the atoning blood of Christ.
3. Obedience in coming to this throne.
4. Calling upon God for mercy and Grace to help in time of need.
5. Boldness in approach.
6. Fervency and Earnestness in presenting needs. (James 5:16) (Luke 11:5-13)
7. Faith in the Answer.
