The Blood Covenant

THE NEW COVENANT IN MY BLOOD:

It was introduced at the “Last Supper” which we now call the “Lords Table”, when Jesus said, “This is my blood of the New Covenant, which is poured out for many unto the remission of sins,” and He told them to eat the bread which was His body and to drink the wine which He declared was His blood.

NB!  The disciples in their silence indicated that they understood what Jesus was talking about.

“Verily verily, I say unto you, except ye eat of the flesh of the Son of man, and drink His blood, ye have not life in yourselves.”

COVENANT MEANS TO CUT, (thus we cut the covenant with God).

Abraham cut the Covenant with his neighbors before he ever entered into the Covenant with Jehovah.

THE ORIGIN OF THE BLOOD COVENANT:

The Blood covenant or what we now call the “Lords Table”, is based on the first and oldest covenant that God made with man, namely that which He cut with Adam at the very beginning.

NOTE:  Stanley and Livingston both cut the Covenant with tribes in Africa.

REASONS FOR CUTTING THE COVENANT:

If two tribes live side by side and one is weaker, the weaker tribe would seek to cut the covenant with the stronger tribe, that they may be preserved. Two business men would cut the covenant so that neither would take advantage of the other. If two men loved each other as devotedly as David and Jonathan, they would cut it for Loves sake.

JEHOVAH CUTS THE COVENANT WITH ABRAHAM:

Name Change:
Abram (Abraham) which means a prince of God.
Sarai (Sarah) which means a princess of God.

NB! He (God) lifted them up into the Royal family before He cut the Covenant with them.

Circumcision: (Gen 17) The Covenant was sealed by circumcision. This bound Abraham and God together, and Abraham’s descendants with indissoluble ties by the same token.

THE CUTTING OF THE COVENANT

Abraham was 99 years of age, and God appeared to him as “God Almighty,” or “El Shaddai”. Walk before me, and be thou perfect, and I will make my covenant between me and thee, and I will multiply thee exceedingly. Abraham fell on his face before God, under the presence of the Holy Spirit. The name change and the elevation of position and title. (Gen 15:6)  God made a promise, and “Abraham believed God and it was reckoned to for righteousness.”

NOTE: In the Hebrew believe means:- Loving trust, giving yourself up wholly, to be a part of Himself, go right into Him, unqualified committal.  Thus Abraham gave himself to God in utter abandonment of self. God said, “Take for me” or as substitute for God, “an animal and slay it”. Abraham did it. Then God said, “My substitute has been slain, and I want you to circumcise yourself,” so that his blood would mingle with the blood of Gods substitute. When that was done, God and Abraham had entered the Covenant.

THIS MEANS THAT:-

What Abraham had or ever would have was laid on the altar. That God must sustain and protect Abraham to the very limit. Thus Israel came into the covenant, and was limited to Israel, the children of Abraham, and had behind it the Promise and the Oath of God. (Gen 22:16-18)

NOTE:  The “Law of” or “Ten Commandments”, come as a result of this covenant.

ABRAHAM’S SACRIFICE

“Take now thy son, thine only son, whom thou lovest”.

Abraham was nearly 100 years and Sarah 90 years, but Abraham did not consider this, he believed God, by looking unto God. The child (Isaac) grew to 18-20 years and then God asked for the boy. He was a miracle boy. Abraham did not hesitate, but took him on that 3 day and 3 night journey. They arrived at Mount Mariah, and they built an altar. Abraham laid the young man on the Altar and drew the knife to slay him, when the Angel of the Lord shouted to him, saying, “Abraham! Abraham ! Stay thy hand.” “By myself (God) have I sworn, “saith Jehovah,” for because thou hast done this thing and hast not withheld thy son, thine only son.”

NB!  Abraham had proved his worthiness of Gods confidence.

THE LAW OF THE PRIESTHOOD

Then God gave them the “Blood Covenant Law,” or “Mosaic Law”, this was to separate them from the other people of the Earth.  It was to make them a “peculiar people”, on whom God could bestow unusual blessings, and it was on this basis of the “Blood Covenant.”  The Covenant was the center around which all of Israel’s life moved.  After giving the Law, the Law was broken, and so a Priesthood was imperative.

There had never been a divinely appointed priesthood in the human race before, and now God had appointed Priesthood and a high Priest.  Now God appointed a special sacrifice in which the blood was to cover the broken Law, and cover the spiritually dead Israel so that God could dwell in their midst.  Never before had there been an “atonement offering” or the “Great day of atonement.”  All the offerings had been peace offerings, or the whole burnt offering.

NOTE:  Hebrew word for Atonement means to cover.

BLESSINGS OF THE COVENANT

God was under an obligation to shield them from the armies of the Nations that surrounded them. That their land brought forth large crops. That their herds and flocks were multiplied. His hand was upon them in blessing. They became the head of Nations and of Wealth. Jerusalem became the world’s richest city. Their hillsides were irrigated, their valleys teemed with wealth. There was no city or nation like it. God was their God, they were Gods covenant people. Under the covenant one man could chase 1000 in war, and two, set 10 000 to flight. David’s blood covenant warriors could slay 800 in war. Without weapons rent a lion as though it had been a kid. They had physical strength, and divine protection. God was their physician, there was no sickness. They were Gods peculiar people.  They were the treasure of Gods heart.

THE “NEW COVENANT”

The “Old Covenant” was the basis on which the “New Covenant” was founded.  Thus the Disciples knew what Jesus was talking about when he “cut” the “New Covenant”.

JESUS, THE SURETY

(Heb 10:9)   Jesus fulfilled the Old Covenant.  Thus everything connected with it was set aside. The “New Covenant” is sealed with “New Birth”. (1Pet 2:1-10) Jesus is the High Priest and we are the “Royal Priesthood”. We have become the “Holy of Holies” in which the Spirit of God dwells. (Heb 7:22)   Jesus has become the surety in the “New Covenant” where as Jehovah was in the “Old”. (Heb 7:24)   Jesus is the “Great Intercessor” of the “New Covenant”. Just as God swore by Himself in the Old, Jesus is the surety of every word in the New. (Heb 10:1)  The Old was a shadow of the New. (Rom 8:1,5:1,3:26) The “Sin Consciousness” has been removed. Jesus blood sealed the New Covenant.
